This picture looks like Wittower Fähre in North Rügen, just before 1994, until when both previous train ferries “Wittow” (1896) and “Bergen” (1911, initially named "Jasper von Maltzahn", which apparently replaced older ferry “Jasmund”) operated.

Narrow gauge (750mm) train route Bergen auf Rügen - Altenkirchen was active with connecting ferries between 1896-1968.

Inner gauge for vechicles on board the ferry max ca 3 m (extrnal width ca 5.4-5.8m?).

Wishing you a great trip! :)

Göta Canal in Tåtorp, in the centre of Central Sweden

The direction of the picture is towards the east, coming from lake Vänern and just before arriving to lake Viken.
It seems to be pretty much the highest point of Göta canal.

I would guess the picture was taken from the bridge of MS Wilhelm Tham (1912)? Picture from the ‘80s?

Incredible! Tåtorp, yes, highest point, yes, taken from the bridge deck of the WILHELM THAM, yes, but to the aft, så we had just left Viken, 1982, yes. Och landskapet är således Västergötland.

“Ser ut som Rysland (river boats, vegetation, glass frames), but it’s too neat and clean,” was the first impression of seeing the picture. :|

But there exists a canal that fits to both conditions: Saimaa canal between Saimaa lake and Vyborg. Situated in Karelia, built during the 19th century Tzar times, rented in full length by Finland and widened during Soviet Union times.

The picture seems to be taken in the Särkijärvi/Iskrovka lock, looking towards the east. Perhaps during early 90’s (or late 80’s)?

There’s a pretty cool video of travelling the canal (the lock in the picture is at 0:33 of the total 1min:38sec video length):
